Australia is one of the pioneers of rooftop solar installation among top leaders of solar photovoltaic. It is due to the country has extended this segment of the solar market more quickly. As a matter of fact, it has doubled its rooftop solar capacity from 2017 through 2019.
This point becomes more interesting when we know that this segment of the market has shown no signs of slowing down so far in 2020, according to Australian solar industry statistician, SunWiz. This is despite the slow start due to the COVID-19 pandemic and an economic recession that is hitting the global energy market.
For example, in February, rooftop solar installations broke all previous records by rising up to the highest monthly registered capacity, 218 MW. On a state by state basis, Victoria’s with 48MW, South Australia with 24MW, Western Australia with 26.5MW, New South Wales 59MW, Queensland with 53MW, and the rest was the share of Tasmania which contributed to this market.
