China, As a Pioneer of Climate Activist Nations, Wants to Build More Coal Power Plants

China as the pioneer of solar PV installation since 2013 and with 176.1 GW cumulative solar PV installation in 2018 plans to add more coal power plants. According to CNN, China is the world’s largest producer and consumer of coal, far outstripping rivals such as the United States, India, and Australia. However, amid rising concern around greenhouse gas emissions and manmade climate change, China’s reliance on fossil fuels has come under increasing domestic and international scrutiny.

On the other hand, for the third year in a row, the number of coal-fired power plants under development worldwide dropped steeply in 2018, according to a report released by Global Energy Monitor, Greenpeace India, and the Sierra Club.

All of these facts raise the question of why China wants to build more coal power plants? In answer to the question, we could say that maybe local industries and communities who derive great benefits are keen to persuade official governments to fulfill this goal.
