During the month of May, Costa Rica generated 984.19 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of its electricity from renewable energies. With this, a significant milestone was reached in the country’s history.
787.14 GWh (80.04%) was supplied by Hydro-power; 126.96 GWh (12.9%) by geothermal, 68.79 (6.99%) by wind and only 0.59 GWh (0.06%) by solar & biomass energy. Only 0.01% of the country’s required energy was generated with polluting thermal backup.
Generally, Costa Rica has been an early pioneer in supplying its energy consumption from renewable sources.
