India is becoming the host of the GigaWatt scale (GWS) solar parks. According to PV-Magazine, India has nine GWS solar parks which are intended to boast a huge 14.7 GW of generation capacity and which are under various stages of construction. Some 6.7 GW of that figure is already operating, 3 GW is partially operating and 5 GW is under development.
Recently, as a new stream of expanding GWS solar parks, Adani Green Energy has secured a Solar Energy Corporation of India (Seci) award to develop 8 GW solar project that will include a 2 GWS solar park. This 2GW solar park will be coming online by 2022. It will be placed as the tenth GWS solar park in India as well as becoming the largest solar park in the world which is located in a single-site.
It is worth mentioning that Noor Abu Dhabi solar park is now the world’s largest solar park in a single-site with 1.177 GW capacity located in Abu Dhabi.
