Obstacles In The Way of Commercializing Perovskite Solar Cells (PSCs) - Part 1

We have written a lot about striking aspects of Perovskite solar cells (PSCs) such as their power conversion efficiencies, structures & other features. However, we have less dealt with “the obstacles” that have made them unavailable to the market up to now.
Two major obstacles in the way of commercializing and mass production of PSCs are “Stability” and “Toxicity”. Now in the first part of this long enough feed, we focus on the latter because somewhat talked about the former in the previous post about this technology.
The most commonly used PSCs contain lead (Pb) which contains well-known health & environmental risks. This refers to the toxicity challenge of PSCs. Although research on alternative and reducing lead in PSC’s production are ongoing until now no suitable alternatives have been found.
Another study indicates that removing lead from PSC lowers efficiency and stability. The Price-competitive alternative has not been found yet.
