Operational Rooftop Solar Capacity Reached over 5.95 GW in India, as of June 2020

Operational rooftop solar capacity reached over 5.95 GW in India. The industrial segment with 3080 MW has allotted the largest portion to itself followed by the commercial building which installed rooftop solar. The commercial segment comprised more than one-fifth of the total capacity, 1293 MW.

In the last 12 months from June 2019 to June 2020, 1.14 GW has been installed and reached the total rooftop solar capacity of India of 5,953 MW.

According to TaiyangNews, among the top 3 states with the largest share of rooftop solar capacity as of June 2020, the states of

  • Maharashtra tops the list with 851 MW,
  • Rajasthan on the 2nd spot with 526 MW and
  • Tamil Nadu on 3rd spot with 481 MW installed.

Although the total rooftop solar capacity in India arrived at the significant spot, this segment suffered from the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic in the second quarter of 2020, and only 140 MW was installed during that time.
