Over Week 19 in Germany, Solar Power Accounted for 50% of Electricity Production

Thanks to the clear and sunny sky over week 19, Germany reached another stunning milestone in its history. Solar power was the dominant source of electricity generation in week 19. It made up of close to 50% of the total generated electricity in the country. This event reached its peak on the 8th of May when solar-generated electricity consisted of 53.4% of the total generated electricity on that day.

It is worth mentioning that, in 2019, the share of renewable electricity generation into the electricity mix of the country exceeded from the share of fossil fuels. It was for the first time in the country’s history.

Renewables accounted for 46% of the total power in 2019, however, fossil fuels allotted slightly more than 40% to itself. The total electricity production from all renewable sources was about 237 TWh, in 2019.
