Solar Electricity In All Major Chinese Cities is Cheaper Than Grid Supplied Electricity

Currently, China’s major cities are in the position that solar PV electricity generation is cheaper than electricity which is supplied by the grid.

The cost of solar PV electricity generation is affected by many local factors such as advances in technology and low installation costs (low labor cost). According to Techxplore, in recent years, China has put a significant amount of effort into producing and installing solar technology to the extent that they are now the world’s biggest producer of solar cells, and also the world’s biggest installer of solar panels. Last year, installations in the country accounted for half of all installations worldwide.

A team of researchers from KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Mälardalen University, and Tsinghua University has found that the solar PV electricity cost is falling lower than grid-supplied electricity. The result of research published in the Nature Energy journal.
