As of 2017, Germany has been the destination country for the most installed solar PV capacity. However, the competition was almost between the U.K and Germany to get the top position for solar PV installation. However, in 2019, Spain emerged as the new rival for two other countries.
Before 2019, Spain forsook a nightmare decade in the solar PV installation & some believe it was due to fossil energy lobbies. The total installed solar PV capacity of Spain reached 288 MW. In 2017 when around 4 GW of solar was awarded a grid-connection deadline at the end of 2019 ignited a bright spark within Spain’s solar industry. As a result of them, the capacity increased as much as 16 times in 2019 compared to the previous year. Therefore, it outstripped all other competitors in 2019 and sat in the first tier of countries with the most added solar PV capacity.
