Poland first opened its arms to solar PV in 2019. Since then, there has been a drastic increase in solar PV installation. Before this, Poland had less than 1000 MW cumulative capacity in the solar PV segment. The country reached this milestone in October 2019.
After that, Poland added 150 MW of solar PV in the first two months of 2020. Then, the country has raised up its cumulative capacity by 2261 MW in July of that year. The Institute for Renewable Energy (IEO) in Poland estimated the country’s cumulative capacity in solar PV will reach 2.5 GW by the end of 2020. They also estimate that by 2025 the country will reach the 7800 MW capacity.
Now, the institute recently reported that the cumulative capacity in solar PV of Poland was 3500 MW and solar PV installation has been increased by 150% in 2020. This means that this country has passed close to half of the pace only in one year. According to the IEO, almost 80% of this solar installation was driven by individual and business prosumers with their micro-installations.
