How Do We Rank the Best Solar Panels on Our List?

SolarEdition’s Top 10 Solar panels list has been arranged based on three features the following

1- Solar panel Efficiency

The efficiency of the solar panel is the first criterion in sorting our list. But what is efficiency in the solar panel? The solar panel’s efficiency is the ability of the panel to convert sunlight into electricity. In simple words, this means the higher the efficiency, the more electricity is generated for you. Our Top 10/best solar panels list has been published since 2019 and it was originally named the most-efficient solar panels.

2- Power Density

Another used criterion for distinguishing and categorizing solar panels is power density. The power density is the total power generated by a PV module divided by the area of that module. The power density unit is watts per square meter (W/m2 ).  It is one of the things that all PV module sellers, buyers, and installers should consider.

3- Solar panel’s Power Output

The last parameter in sorting our list is the power output of the PV module. But what is the power output of a solar panel? It is the total amount of electricity you can get from a single panel.

Top 10 Solar Panels List Changes, since June 2022

The July 2022 Top 10 Solar panels list was out with two crucial changes compared to the last Top 10 solar panel which was published in June 2022 by Solar Edition.

3rd Position, Q Cells, Q.TRON series, G1+, 400 W, 22.3%

These two changes were introduced to the PV module market by one of the top PV module producers, Q Cells. The Solar Valley in Thalheim, Germany, is home to the headquarters for the technology and innovation of Q Cells, a well-known South Korean PV module manufacturer. Producing solar cells with Q.ANTUM NEO technology is one of the outcomes of this German tech headquarter. It is crucial to note that the Q.TRON series are highly efficient n-type solar modules with Q.ANTUM NEO technology.

The G1+ model from the Q.TRON series has been released with a white back sheet. This variant provides more power in a lower space thanks to its high power density.

7th Position, Q Cells, Q.TRON series, BLK G1+, 395 W, 22%

This model from the Q.TRON series is another variant with the same specifications but with only one difference. The back sheet of this variant is black in order to boost the aesthetic aspect.

Although there is hot competition among PV module producers to produce products with two new trends in solar cell architectures, Topcon and HJT, G1+ and BLK G1+ models of Q Cells have been produced with current PERC technology and stood at the top ranks in July’s Top 10 Solar panels list, third and seventh ranks.

Technological Details of July 2022 Update

Q Cells, G1+ and BLK G1+ Are Two Variants of the Q.TRON Series with 3 Surprising Features

Q Cells is the world’s first company to commercialize PERC technology, which is now the mainstream of the global solar industry. The company has led the great era of PERC by continuously developing this technology at the cell level. Now, in this direction, the company is ushering a new era of solar by introducing Q.ANTUM NEO technology. Combining N-type technology with Advanced Yield Security and the world’s strictest quality testing program QCPV, Q.ANTUM NEO surpasses the performance of conventional n-type products.

Q.TRON is a Q Cells’ highly efficient n-type solar module based on Q.ANTUM NEO Technology. Thanks to its high efficiency of up to 22.6%, Q.TRON is a suitable solution for limited spaces including rooftops of residential, commercial, and industrial buildings. PV modules from the Q.TRON series have three distinguishing features

  1. Low-temperature coefficient: it maintains its high performance even under extremely high temperatures.
  2. Low annual degradation: it has 0.33% degradation per year of nominal power which is lower than the conventional 0.5% degradation per year of standard solar panels.
  3. Up to 90% of nominal power after 25 years: This surprising feature provides up to 10 % more yields for 25 years compared to P-type products.
