How Do We Rank the Best Solar Panels in Our List?
SolarEdition’s Top 10 Solar panels list has been arranged based on three features as the following
1- Solar panel Efficiency
The efficiency of the solar panel is the first criterion in sorting our list. But what is efficiency in the solar panel? The solar panel’s efficiency is the ability of the panel to convert sunlight into electricity. In simple words, this means the higher the efficiency, the more electricity is generated for you. Our Top 10/best solar panels list has been published since 2019 and it was originally named the most-efficient solar panels.
2- Power Density
Another used criterion for distinguishing and categorizing solar panels is power density. The power density is the total power generated by a PV module divided by the area of that module. The power density unit is watts per square meter (W/m2 ). It is one of the things that all PV module sellers, buyers, and installers should consider.
3- Solar panel’s Power Output
The last parameter in sorting our list is the power output of the PV module. But what is the power output of a solar panel? It is the total amount of electricity you can get from a single panel.
Top 10 Solar Panels List Changes, since May 2022
The June 2022 Top 10 Solar panels list was released with two important changes compared to the last Top 10 solar panel which was published in May 2022 by Solar Edition.
2nd Position, REC, Alpha series, Pure-R, 430 W, 22.3%
These changes were introduced to the PV module market by one of the top PV module manufacturers, Canadian Solar and one of the most trusted brands, REC group. The first change is related to the REC group’s Alpha series. Pure-R variant of Alpha series is one of the high-performance PV modules of this PV module manufacturer with 22.3% efficiency ranked 2nd and stood higher than its close rival, Jinko Solar’s Tiger Neo model.
In a hot competition among PV module producers to produce products with two new trends in solar cell architectures, TOPCon and HJT, REC’s Pure-R model with HJT technology stood at the highest rank in June’s Top 10 Solar panels list, second rank.
11th Position, HiKu7, CS7N-670 Model
The other change is related to Canadian Solar’s HiKu7 model which the company has boosted its efficiency, power density, and power output. The HiKu7 model of this firm with 21.6% efficiency, more than 215 watt per square meters power density, and 670 W in its power output placed in 11th rank in our June’s best solar panels list.
It is worth mentioning that Trina Solar’s Vertes S model with the same specifications has stood at the lower rank compared to Canadian Solar’s HiKu7 model, due to its higher weight.

Technological Details of June 2022 Update
REC Pure-R Model: Green PV Module Which Producing with HJT and Gapless Cell Layout
REC group is one of the leading European PV module manufacturers which has been producing next-generation solar modules with minimal environmental impact. By using advanced manufacturing techniques, the REC Alpha Pure has removed the lead from all components so that it is compliant with Restriction of Hazardous Substances regulations (RoHS) across the world. Its Alpha series has utilized heterojunction technology (HJT) in solar cells and won the Intersolar 2020 Award for it. In contrast to other variants of this series, the company utilized black basheet instead of white one in the bottom layer of a PV module in order to promote the aesthetic aspect of the module.
The Pure-R model of REC released with gapless cell layout in order to eliminate soldering for better build quality, reduce cell stress for long-term durability, and finally reach higher power in a compact panel size.
HiKu7 series of Canadian Solar: PV Module Which is an Old Member of 500+ PV Module Producer Club
As a new trend in 2020, top PV module manufacturers had a huge appetite to reach higher power output at the module level. Therefore, they tried to unveil their most-powerful PV module series with more than 500 W in their output. First of all, Trina Solar uncovered its Vertex module with a total capacity of over 500 watts. Soon after that, Risen Energy, LONGi Solar, Jinko Solar, JA Solar, and Canadian Solar unveiled their products with the same output power range. They have formed the “500+ PV module producer” club.
First, Canadian Solar entered with the HiKu6 model in this club. Then, it released its HiKu7 model. This model has only one advantage over the HiKu6 module which is 10W higher power. They feature M10 wafers which have recently been proposed as the new industry standard for wafer size. Recently, the company enhanced its efficiency, power density, and power output at this model.
