SolarEdition’s Top 10 Solar panels list has been arranged based on three features as the following
1- Solar panel Efficiency
The efficiency of the solar panel is the first criterion in sorting our list. But what is efficiency in the solar panel? The solar panel’s efficiency is the ability of the panel to convert sunlight into electricity. In simple words, this means the higher the efficiency, the more electricity is generated for you. Our Top 10 solar panels list has been published since 2019 and it was originally named the most-efficient solar panels.
2- Power Density
Another used criterion for distinguishing and categorizing solar panels is power density. The power density is the total power generated by a PV module divided by the area of that module. The power density unit is watts per square meter (W/m2 ). It is one of the things that all PV module sellers, buyers, and installers should consider.
3- Solar panel’s Power Output
The last parameter in sorting our list is the power output of the PV module. But what is the power output of a solar panel? It is the total amount of electricity you can get from a single panel.
Top 10 Solar Panels List Changes, since March 2022
The April 2022 Top 10 Solar panels list was released with two significant changes compared to the last Top 10 solar panel which was published in March 2022 by Solar Edition. These changes, introduced to the PV module market, are related to Jinko Solar’s Tiger Neo solar panels series. A variant of the Tiger series with 22.24% ranked 2nd and pushed back its close rival, that is Panasonic’s EvorVolt module with 22.2% efficiency..
In a hot competition for the middle ranks of April 2022 Best Solar panels list with 21.4 % efficiency, from 12th to 15th ranks, Risen Energy’s Titan solar module stood at the highest rank thanks to its higher power density and power output.

Technological Details of April 2022 Update
Jinko Solar Tiger Neo: Solar panel with the Next-generation Mainstream TOPCon Technology
Jinko Solar is the leading PV module manufacturer and its Tiger series has utilized several high-efficiency technologies such as multi busbar (MBB), half-cut cell technology, and tiling ribbon.
Each of these technologies has its own advantages. MBB technology leads to decrease power loss effectively. Because nowadays PV modules have become more efficient, in turn, generate more current, thus over recent years most manufacturers have moved from 5 or 6 busbars to MBB to collect these electrical currents. Busbars are thin wires or ribbons which run down each cell and carry the electrons (current) through the solar module. Tiling ribbons eliminate cell gaps to increase module efficiency significantly. It is worth mentioning that Jinko Solar has replaced half-cut cell technology in its Tiger series with TOPCon technology in the new variant of this series. To extract greater technical and economic value from n-type TOPCon, JinkoSolar officially launched its n-Type module of 22.3% efficiency based on a 182” wafer, naming it Tiger Neo.
Since the PERC technology has reached its threshold in efficiency it’s crucial to promote alternatives such as the n-type TOPCon technology. This technology is the common industrial practice to apply this structure on the rear side of the n-type solar cell. The TOPCon process involves some additional steps over the PERC production process. It has the highest theoretical efficiency potential at 28.7%. Tiger Neo 60HL4-(V) model with 22.24% efficiency and 480 power output placed at second rank in 2022 April’s Best Solar panel list. Moreover, its annual degradation is lower than its mean annual degradation, 0.4% per year.
Risen Energy’s Titan: PV Module with Higher Power Density and Output Among other PERC Rivals
There is a hot competition in the middle of the best 2022’s solar panel list among Jinko Solar, Silfab Solar, and LG. Risen Energy has used PERC, MBB, and half-cut solar cell technologies and placed it upper than others. In half-cell technology, solar cells are split into 2 smaller cells of 50% capacity each of which works in parallel. This has multiple benefits including increased performance due to lower resistive losses through the bus bars (current collectors). Since each cell is the half size then it produces half the current at the same voltage which means the width of the busbar can be reduced by half, in turn, reducing cell shading and losses. The lower current also translates to lower cell temperatures which in turn reduces the potential formation and severity of hot spots due to localized shading, dirt, or cell damage.
Risen Energy’s Titan module with 21.4% resulted in standing in the middle of April 2022 Best solar panels list. But its higher power density and power output go up its ranking to 12th place. Risen Energy’s Titan 500W+ and Titan 600W+ series promote the dawning of a new PV era.
