Solar photovoltaic (PV) projects have gained momentum in the southern United States, especially in Texas. This momentum has been triggered by an increase in utility-scale solar PV demand. According to IHS Markit, the southeastern and southwestern parts of the country will account for 31% and 23% of total utility-scale demand from 2020 through 2024, respectively.
The great solar irradiance and the availability of land give the opportunity for the growth of utility-scale solar PV projects in this region. It is expected that Texas will host projects up to 3 GW by the end of the year, which will help solar power, especially utility-scale PV projects, flourish in this region.
According to PV-Magazine, declining PV system costs, the state’s deregulated electricity market, a streamlined permitting and connection process, transmission lines designed to handle renewable power, and vast amounts of land and strong solar resources have made Texas an ideal place for solar to flourish.
